Ask Doctor and Dentist for
referrals.

Transfer birth records, medical
records, prescriptions etc...

AND DON'T FORGET TO:

Empty
the freezer and refrigerator, plan for use of foods.

Defrost freezer and clean refrigerator. Use baking soda to
eliminate odors.

Have
appliances serviced for moving.

Check
with your moving company for insurance coverage, packing and
unpacking labor, arrival day, various shipping papers, method,
time of expected payment and provide phone number where they can
reach you.

Empty
gasoline from lawn mower and discard any cleaning fluids that are
flammable. The mover will not allow them to be packed.

Label
boxes that you will need right away.

Plan
for the special needs of infants or pets.
-
Plan
to have your car serviced before the trip.
ON MOVING DAY:
-
Make hotel reservation if you
are traveling for more than one day or have to wait for the movers
to arrive.

Take a local phone directory
with you for easy access to numbers of old friends, businesses,
etc.
-
Carry enough cash or travelers
checks to cover cost of moving services and expenses until you
make banking connections in new city.

Carry jewelry and documents
yourself.
-
Plan for transporting pets; they
are poor traveling companions if unhappy.
-
Let close friend or relative
know route and schedule you will travel including overnight stops;
use him or her as message headquarters.

Double check closets, drawers,
and shelves to be sure they are empty.

Leave old keys needed by new
tenant or owner with realtor or neighbor.
AT YOUR NEW ADDRESS:

Arrange for someone to be at
your new home when the moving van arrives.

Inspect everything before you
sign your moving receipt and find out how many days you have to
claim any damages.

Obtain certified check or
cashier's check necessary for closing real estate transaction.
-
Check pilot light on stove, hot
water heater, and furnace.
-
Have appliances checked.
-
Ask the mail carrier for mail he
or she may be holding for your arrival.

Have new address recorded on
driver's license or apply for state driver's license.
-
Visit city offices and register
for voting.
-
Register car within five days
after arrival in state or a penalty may have to be paid when
getting new license plates.

Transfer motor club membership.
-
Register family in your new
place of worship.
-
Register children in school.
-
Arrange for medical services:
doctor, dentist, veterinarian, etc.
